Don't miss the premiere of Anthony's setting of Claude McKay's "America," on July 4, 2021, presented by Calliope's Call in their “I, Too, Sing America,” concert series. This particular work will be performed by baritone Dana Whiteside. Calliope’s Call is an arts organization dedicated to creating exciting and culturally relevant performances of art song. Their summer concert series, “I, too, sing America,” consists of musical settings of texts by Black poets. In celebration of the Black experience in America and in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, this program will give voice to under-represented perspectives during a time when these voices need to be heard. Featuring exciting new works alongside well-known works by beloved Black composers and writers in the art song canon. Performances will be held Sunday, July 4, 2021 at 4:00 pm, Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 4:00 pm, and Sunday, July 18, 2021, 4:00 pm. Virtual roundtable discussions with the composers will occur after the concerts on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 5:00 pm, and on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 5:00 pm.
